TransformHER 2020: The Power of Community
As Women of Color, we are all well aware of the obstacles and challenges we face, inside and outside of the office. We can acknowledge these challenges AND at the same time look forward to the future and ask ourselves: what’s possible? And how can we be in action together around a solution?
TransformHER was born in 2018 designed as an event to have Women of Color and Allies answer those questions for ourselves. We want to look beyond obstacles and mere conversation and get into action, up-leveling and changing our trajectory. Our goal is that everyone leave committed to doing something that will make a meaningful difference for yourself and others.
The path to equity and access for Women of Color is not a simple one. However, at TransformHER we see a few paths for transformation:
Expand Your Community – At LinkedIn, we have a vision of creating economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. One of the most powerful tools you can cultivate is your network, your community. Your network and your relationships equal your capacity to build wealth. The beauty of TransformHER is that after one transformative day, you leave with a larger, more powerful network to help you get where you want to go.
Increase Allyship – Allies are forward looking leaders who are capable of unlocking the potential of diverse talent. Allies understand that like most skills you want to master, bias is only overcome through repeated and concerted effort. Allies are also on their own journey and their journey is often an uncomfortable one. However, those forward looking Allies that choose to take this journey on understand that this is the right choice for leaders of the future. I want to acknowledge TransformHER Co-Founder Ezra Zimbler for his courageous active allyship. It has been beyond a pleasure to build with him and our broader TransformHER team.
Change the Game – Women of Color are capable, smart, savvy and deserving of leadership opportunities. We will not be limited by other people’s perceptions of who we are. We will not dim our light to make others feel comfortable. When we do excellent work, we deserve someone who will advocate for us. We deserve to be in the room and to be heard. Let’s not just play the game, wherever and whenever possible, let’s strive to change the game.
Last year at TransformHER 2019, attendees committed to transforming their lives. In 2020, we will collaborate in new ways, we will pursue our passion and potential together, advancing the cause as a community.
We will continue to show up until equity is the norm.
We are now 3K members strong in the TransformHER LinkedIn Group. Can you help us get to 10K? Please join and share this post with someone you’d like to join the community!
